Rita Melendez Rodriguez
Age 84, passed away peacefully
on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.
Rita was born on February 15, 1930 in St. Paul, MN. She married the love of her life, Luis Rodriguez, in March of 1950. She worked and raised nine great children. Their house was the neighborhood hangout and the house was always full of kids, pets and laughter. Rita loved family gatherings and everyone could not wait to eat her great food, especially her potato salad and Spanish rice. She was a strong and generous woman who entertained everyone with her fascinating and colorful stories. Her loving memories will be cherished by her survivors: her husband of 64 years, Luis, her children Robert (June), Wayne (Juanita), Luis Jr. (Tamie Hernandez), Gary (Barbara), Scott (Sheryl), Sharon, Candi Ellis (John), Randy (Angela), Rita Swanson (Scott), 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Shirley Brown, Jane Hauge, Dolly Melendez and Patty Hyatt and her brothers Manuel Melendez Jr. and Eddie Melendez. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, 11:00 A.M. at OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 Concord Street. Burial Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday, 5-8 P.M. at SIMPLE TRADITIONS BY BRADSHAW, 488 Humboldt Avenue. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation are preferred.
