Terrell Brown

December 11, 1953 — July 6, 2025

Terrell Jay Brown of Minneapolis, MN passed away at home on July 7, 2025. Terrell was born and raised in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from Valley High School. He was on the high school swim team which is an activity he enjoyed throughout his entire life. After high school, Terrell attended Drake University in Des Moines, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He furthered his education, earning a Master's Degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

Terrell embraced life with energy, curiosity, and a deep love for people and experiences. After moving to Minneapolis, he chose to live in the heart of downtown to stay close to everything and everyone. Terrell had many circles of friends and his presence was felt in countless communities throughout the city and beyond.

He was an avid cyclist, often found riding with his cycling group through the Twin Cities on international cycling trips, including memorable rides in Europe. A lifelong swimmer, Terrell could also be found at the pool, swimming laps with friends who shared his passion for the water. Terrell enjoyed gathering with friends at local breweries, always adding warmth and conversation wherever he went.

Soccer became another cherished part of his life. He cheered on the MN United as a season ticket holder, watched matches of clubs he supported with friends at local support venues, and even traveled to Brazil to attend the World Cup. In the fall, Sundays were reserved for football and time spent with friends, sharing both joy and heartbreak as devoted Vikings fans.

Terrell found a spiritual home at the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, where he connected deeply with the community and found a place where he could truly be himself.

In later years, photography became a meaningful pursuit. Terrell captured and shared countless images that reflected his perspective and the beauty he saw in the world. But of all his passions, travel was perhaps his greatest joy. Whether venturing alone or with companions, Terrell explored over fifty countries, visiting loved ones and immersing himself in cultures around the globe.

Even after receiving a cancer diagnosis, Terrell continued to live life fully. He never asked about his prognosis, choosing instead to focus on the present, embracing each day with optimism and determination. His strength and spirit allowed him to continue making memories with friends on trips, gatherings, and everyday adventures.

Terrell Brown was a remarkable person - kind, adventurous, and endlessly inspiring. He was a beloved friend to many and a powerful reminder to live life with purpose and heart. He is deeply missed.

Terrell was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Norma Brown, as well as his sister, Barbara Brown.

He is survived by his sister, Marianne Cary (Mark), and his nieces Krista Cary, Jessica Haislip (Matt), Kayla Cary, and Angela Squires (Josh).
