In memory of our dear beloved mother Tereza Nyager Buth Diu.
I would like to thank you my dear family and friends for the love and support that you showed us through our moments of sadness and difficulties dealing with the illness of our dear mother. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes for our family. May our Lord, God bless you for your kindness and keep you safe in The name of Jesus Christ Saviour.
On Wednesday 27/ 08/2025 at 07:27 a.m. our dear mother Tereza Nyager Buth Diu passed away at Regions Hospital, St Paul Minnesota, U.S.A. This is the saddest and most painful news that we had to deal with. As a Christian family, we thank God in good times and bad. We live through faith in Jesus Christ, we worship and adore Him The King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Our mother is the fifth child of Nyabyei Luoth and Buth Diu of the Nuer Tribe Of South Sudan. She was born in Fangak in 1951, the family moved to Khartoum when she was three years old and she went to primary school there. She and her younger sister Afaaf then went to boarding school in Malakal for their junior studies. After that she went to sister school in Khartoum where she got her high school certificate in 1968.
1969 she was engaged to my father, public administrator, former member of parliament professor Ajang Bior Duot. They got married in 1971 and then I was born in 1973, followed by my brothers Edmond Bior, Edward Duot and our sister Caroline Kuer.
When we went to Juba, before our sister was born our mother went back to study in Juba commercial school. After getting her certificate, she started working in UNICEF, she gave birth to our sister in Juba she continued working meanwhile studying management at MTC.
She continued working for UNICEF Juba until 1990, then she was transferred to UNICEF Khartoum where she continued working until 1998, that's when she retired. She went to Egypt and from there she immigrated to Salt Lake City in 2000 and then to St Paul Minnesota in 2006. That's where she stayed with my sister. When she became an American citizen in 2010, she spent most of her time in Khartoum and Juba taking care of grandmother, staying with our father and coming back to St Paul for medical checkups, renewing documents and spending a few months with my sister and going back to Juba.
In 2023 when she came to St. Paul, she was diagnosed with stage four cancer and kidney failure. Since then she was in treatment. Chemotherapy and Dialysis, in and out of the hospital. My sister took good care of her, never missing an appointment. I was able to come in May 2024 for almost two months, and this year I came in May and stayed for one month, now I'm here since Friday 5/09/2021.
What I want you to know is that Mum never complained, never felt sorry for herself, never questioned God, never stopped praying in the name of Jesus. The last telephone call we had was on Monday August 25th. She was energetic, she told me she spoke to all our family members and friends to bid them farewell, she was at peace and wants me to know that she loves all of us very much and gave me some instructions and advice.
So here we are now giving thanks to God for a life well lived, praying for her soul and saying our final goodbye at the cemetery.
On behalf of the family, I would like to thank you my dear family and friends for standing with us in this difficult time. God bless You.
Ketty Awak Ajang.
