Steven Overstreet

October 21, 1948 — October 1, 2025

Steven Ray Overstreet, 76, of Braham, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 1st, 2025 at Abbott Heart Hospital after a brief health decline.

Born on October 21st, 1948 in Huntington Park, California to Rena (Gray) and Joel Overstreet. A child of the 60's, Steve grew up into a hippie surrounded by a close-knit group of friends. He often shared stories of surfing the wedge at Newport Beach and being a roadie for his friend's band, Batdorf & Rodney. He was drafted and served his country in Vietnam in 1968-1969.

Steve became a nurse in 1985 and spent many years at North Memorial working on 7 North. He spread joy to all, bringing light to some of his patient's darkest days. He was the coworker that made your shift go fast and made you look forward to going to work. The good he brought into the world will live on through these memories.

A life long car lover, Steve could repair just about anything and would rattle off years and makes and models at the drop of a hat...he figured he had owned nearly 50 cars in his life.

Steve had the greatest joy in being a father. He instilled in his children a love for creativity; he was always turning normal things into unexpected treasures. He taught his kids that you must protect your reputation, work hard, and find joy in the little things. Extend grace to others. He had a witty sense of humor and a sparkle in his eyes. He loved nothing more than to earn a laugh or a smile from those around him. Mid morning pancakes were his specialty. He was always reading and learning new things about random subjects; his curiosity was another gift of his. His children treasure his endlessly creative bedtime stories featuring "Bill the Bubble" whose adventures always ended with a loud cheek POP!

Steve was fortunate to spend his retirement years with people he loved, enjoying independence and creating weird and wonderful things in beautiful rural Wisconsin and Minnesota.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother (Joel Micheal) and is survived by his children Myra, Amy Franklin (Corey), Molly (Zachary McClendon), Joel and Tim, grandchildren Luca, Harper and Levi Franklin and Jericho Overstreet and companion Nancy Jowiski. He will be forever remembered and forever missed by those lucky enough to call him friend or family. In the words of Steve, "What a long strange trip it has been." A Celebration of Life party will be held in spring of 2026.

We leave you with the words of a poem he thought fondly of and kept close.

Desiderata by Max Enhrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrenderbe on good terms with all persons.Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant;they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.Exercise caution in your business affairs;for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;many persons strive for high ideals;and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.Especially, do not feign affection.Neither be cynical about love;for in the face of all aridity and disenchantmentit is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.Beyond a wholesome discipline,be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,no less than the trees and the stars;you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you,no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,whatever you conceive Him to be,and whatever your labors and aspirations,in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,it is still a beautiful world.Be cheerful.Strive to be happy.
