Steven Hay

Steven Wayne Hay, 65, of St. Paul, Minnesota passed away Saturday morning, June 7th, 2025, at Cerenity Marian of St. Paul, surrounded by family, friends, and a caring medical team, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Steven was born on June 7th, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Wayne Jesse Hay and Loris (Frye) Hay. He grew up in Minneapolis before moving to the farm in Stanchfield in 1970, where he spent the remainder of his childhood. He graduated from Braham High School in 1978, and later from the University of Minnesota, where he obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering in 1982. Steven went on to work for the city of Minneapolis as a transportation engineer and project manager, and later on as a property manager in the Twin Cities metro area.

Steven found joy in music, photography, traveling, sports, and literature. Throughout his life he drafted dozens of screenplays, novels, and children's books. He was an avid runner and completed numerous marathons, and enjoyed cross-country skiing and hiking. He especially loved nature, particularly birds and trees, and was fascinated by falcons, eagles, and owls. He adored music and created hundreds of holiday mixtapes for his family and friends. His greatest joy was time spent with his daughter on trips to Lake Superior and the Minnesota State Fair, where he faithfully photographed her childhood year after year.

Steven was preceded in death by his father, Wayne, his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

Remaining to cherish Steven's memory are his mother, Loris; daughter, Arabella; sisters Diane (Alan) Gulbrandson & Anne; brother David (Arlene); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Steven's life will be held at 1pm, Saturday, June 14th, at Vegsund County Park in Stanchfield, Minnesota.
