With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sopholora "Lora" Sar, a loving mother, sister, grandmother, auntie, and friend. She passed away on November 29, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born in Battambang, Cambodia, to father Nhep, Peng, and mother; Kang, Saly. Lora lived a life defined by courage, sacrifice, and unwavering love. In 1972, she married her late husband, Socheat Sar, and together they began building the family she cherished. During the fall of Cambodia, Lora bravely fled her homeland with her young children and extended family, beginning a new life in the United States with the support of the Richfield Lutheran Church community.
Lora worked hard to provide for her family, serving as a cafeteria cook at Walker Methodist Nursing Home early on, to helping the Cambodian community with healthcare interpreting/translation services in partnership with Region Hospital and Health Partners of St. Paul later in her life. She was known for her gentle spirit, kindness, and quiet strength. She devoted her life to her four sons-Vee, Tee, Stealthy, and Tommy-and to her many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
She is survived by her brother Sophala Nhep, sister-in-law, Sotha Nhep, sister-in-law, Sophal Math, and brother-in-law, Sauri Math, along with a large extended family who deeply loved her.
Lora's legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and family devotion. Though she will be dearly missed, her love lives on in all who knew her.
A heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Woodlake of New Hope and the Hospice team at North Memorial Hospital who made sure her last few days were as comfortable as possible.
"You may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts."
