Sara Jane "Sally" Benner

Mar 16, 1943 — Jun 14, 2026

Sara Jane "Sally" Benner passed away on June 14, 2026. Born on March 16, 1943, in Washington, Pennsylvania, Sally lived a life devoted to her family, friends, and loved ones. Though given the name Sara at birth, she was affectionately known as Sally by those who knew and loved her.

Sally graduated from East Washington High School in 1961, where she served as Captain of the Cheerleading Team. Her leadership, enthusiasm, and school spirit were evident even then and remained defining qualities throughout her life.

On October 14, 1963, she married the love of her life, Cornelius Benner III. Together they shared many years of marriage, building a family, and creating lasting memories.

Sally was a devoted mother to Neil, Don (Lorna), Aaron (Kathleen), and Marcus (Jessica). Her greatest joy was her family, and she took immense pride in her children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with those she loved and watching her family grow through the generations.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Louise Haley; her mother, Rachel Louise Jackson; her sister, Shirley; and her brother, Don.

Sally will be remembered for her loving heart, her strength, and the care she showed to family and friends throughout her life. An incredible cook, she was especially known for her delicious sweets and baked treats, which brought joy to family gatherings and created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to enjoy them. She was also a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her favorite team.

Those who knew Sally will remember her warmth, kindness, sense of humor, and the lasting impact she had on everyone fortunate enough to share in her life.

She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and who will continue to honor her memory through the values, traditions, and love she passed on to them. Though she will be greatly missed, her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with an hour of fellowship prior. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Sally's life and to share in remembering the love, faith, and joy she brought to all who knew her.

May she rest in peace.
