Samuel Robert Sargent, age 33, of St Francis MN, passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2025. His death was due to complications of a traumatic injury which occurred in 2022.

Sam persevered and continued to follow his calling as an admired teacher of physical education and health for elementary and middle school students, as well as a coach on courts and fields. He inspired students, colleagues, and community members alike with his undiminished skill, enthusiasm, and magnetism. Sam was looking forward to a future of educating and empowering students and youth.

Samuel was born in Minneapolis on 11/12/1991 to Lori Witter and Greg Sargent. He welcomed brother, Eric, in 1995. Sam grew up in Minnetonka, enjoying a life filled with family, friends, and sports, and graduated from Minnetonka High School in 2010. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Elementary Education and earned a MS in Physical Education and Health from St Thomas University. Sam spent his summers working with youth as a camp counselor and recreational sports coordinator.

He was a lifelong advocate of physical activity and health, and he channeled his natural gifts as a teacher and his love of children into a rewarding career in education. Sam dedicated his life to working with young children, impacting their lives in ways far beyond the curriculum. His students adored him, and will remember his quiet strength and the gentle way that he taught them as individuals, addressing each of their needs, at the same time as he inspired the larger groups. Sam influenced the lives of thousands of children, and the legacy of his impact, contributions, and character will live on in their lives.

In addition to teaching and coaching, Sam enjoyed many other interests including athletics of any kind, fishing, travel, nature, music, movies, and animals. He was happiest spending time with family, friends and his beloved cats and dogs. Sam was known and admired for his leadership abilities, professionalism and integrity. He was truly kind, fair, and compassionate, and He brought love, wit, and empathy to all of his relationships. Sam possessed a quiet strength, boldness, and light that drew in so many.
