Robert C. Wostrel, age 80 of Plymouth, Minnesota passed away November 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving family after a stoic, courageous battle with leukemia. Bob was born in St. Paul, MN to Clinton (Fritzy) and Marion (Wilcox) Wostrel. He was preceded in death by sister Nancy Aulick, and brother David Wostrel. He's survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; brother-in-law Don Aulick, sister-in-law Sara Wostrel, sister Susan (Mike) Fitzimons, brother Bill (Linda) Wostrel, brother-in-law Kent (Gayle) Huber; children Julie (Matt) Neutgens, Philip (Wendy) Wostrel, Kristina (Paul) Bloom; grandchildren Cory, Braden, Lauryn, Carter, Makenna, and Madelyn; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Bob was a graduate of Minnetonka High School, and pursued a year of post grad. He served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman stationed in Viet Nam, and was honorably discharged. After retiring from 30 plus years of rigorous physical work as a route salesman, he continued to work faithfully driving school bus for Providence Academy in Plymouth until his health prevented. Bob loved getting together with his family and friends. He was a great cook, and really enjoyed cooking and preparing for any gatherings. Bob loved watching sports, and especially enjoyed hockey, having coached his son Phil and his friends' Wayzata youth hockey team back in the day. Several of his grandchildren have or currently play hockey at Champlin Park-Coon Rapids, and he was a loyal supporter and avid fan. He adored all his grandkids and was a loving supporter and fan whether sport or not. He also enjoyed boating, mostly on Lake Minnetonka, and spent many hours towing happy grandkids around. In earlier years camping was also a favorite family activity.
In later years he and Barb thoroughly enjoyed traveling to Mexico each spring and fall, where they met several special life-long friends over the years. In the summer, Bob loved traveling around locally in his convertible, often cruising with grandson Carter as a co-pilot. He was a keen shopper, always on the hunt for the best deal for whoever might need something. He scored many great deals with delight, as it benefitted his family and friends. He was always willing to do whatever was needed to give a hand to help with whatever project or situation might need attention. He was a very logical, determined, yet considerate person, and was always ready not only with a hand, but also a sympathetic ear, sound discussion and loving encouragement to share. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. We're all so proud of him and are very blessed and thankful to have had his constant care and loving presence in our lives.
The family sends our most heartfelt gratitude to Bob's oncology team at North Memorial Cancer Center, the many special caring health professionals at North Memorial and Abbott NW hospitals, and to the compassionate caregivers at the JA Wedum Hospice Residence.
A celebration of life will be held next spring, details to be announced closer to that time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, MN Chapter, 1711 Broadway St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413, in Bob's name.
