Peter Warren Grindstad, age 84, of Minneapolis, formerly of Madison, WI, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, with his granddaughter, Ashley, by his side.
Peter held many accomplishments from service in the U.S Army due to his hard-working nature. Upon retiring from the Mall of America as custodian manager, he enjoyed his life with his family.
He would often say his greatest accomplishment was his family and he earned his self-proclaimed nickname "Mr. Wonderful Wondee" because of them. His name Peter was hardly used because he really was everyone's "Papa, Dad and Grandpa". No matter what you know him as, he was special, and he would be your best friend. He lived his life for his family and thrived with their company.
He loved family dinners, Christmas Parties and a good Timex watch. Barnes and Noble was his favorite spot, a good cup of coffee was his best medicine, and his family was his daily dose of Vitamin C. Papa was a math magician, from long division to fractions, he never missed a step. He was a history buff, a Ford car enthusiast and a Marilyn Monroe fan. His love for music and all his actor facts always made him the best fact checker in a family debate.
His bright smile, hardy laugh and infectious sarcasm made him the star of every gathering, conversation and favorite memory. His unconditional love and support have touched everyone who ever knew him.
He was our family hero and will always be our rainmaker.
Preceded in death by his parents, Albert Grindstad and Ada Peterson.
Survived by his children, Tracy Montantez and Dana Schaar; grandchildren, Ashley Sivoravong, Brittney Martinez, Laura Mattson, and Payton Wilson; great-grandchildren, Apollo Stodolka, Kyu Stodolka, Kenshin Stodolka, Azorra Stodolka, Mila Martinez, Mia Martinez, and Jamie Mattson.
A heartfelt thank you to Peter's longtime caregivers, with special thanks to Daniel (Shu) Stodolka.
