Marilyn Ruby Jarnberg

November 15, 1925 — February 9, 2026

Marilyn Jarnberg, age 100, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully in her home, holding her granddaughter's hand, with loved ones close by.

Marilyn was the daughter of Chaz and Myrtle; sister to her three brothers Bill, Charlie, and Donny; devoted mother of her two daughters, Denise and Kim; and the deeply loved grandmother of Kim's children, Kayla and Colin. She lived a life centered on caring for others, always making sure family, friends, and neighbors felt welcomed and looked after.

Marilyn was born in 1925 in Minot, North Dakota. Her father worked for Wyman Partridge, traveling by train between Minot and Minneapolis with trunks of clothing. Marilyn then moved with her family to Minneapolis as a young girl. Her family built a home with a connecting restaurant and store along the Minnehaha Parkway, where they would serve food and rent bikes to the Northrop neighborhood. Marilyn graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1944. She went on to work for her Uncle Billie's music store, next to Dayton's on LaSalle Ave for ten years. She began a career as a bank teller at Minnehaha Bank, before her mother became ill and she decided to quit to care for her family. She married Richard Miller and had their daughter Denise. Richard passed away at a young age. Later, she met and married John Jarnberg, and had their daughter Kim. Marilyn has lived in the same neighborhood near Lake Nokomis for over 90 years. She was a beloved neighborhood icon known for her kindness, softness, and ever-present wave to those passing by.

She loved laughing and playing with her grandchildren, cooking holiday meals, working outside in her yard, going to lunch, and celebrating life's events with her family. Well into her 90s, she remained active, strong, and independent. She found great joy in her dogs, Taffy, Jac, and Carl, as well as chocolate, waffles, and cherished time with her family. Recently, we celebrated her 100th Birthday with family, friends, and neighbors.

Marilyn will be remembered as a gentle, selfless, and deeply loving presence - a source of light, warmth, and comfort to all who knew her.

Marilyn's memorial will be held at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church on Thursday February 19th, 2026. 10am Visitation, 11am Service, and Luncheon to follow at 5025 Knox Ave S Minneapolis, 55419.

The family thanks all who have helped care for Marilyn over the years to allow her wish of staying in her home come true.

We love you, Marilyn, with all our hearts.
