Kiana Martinez

Kiana "Iya" Martinez, age 26 of Minneapolis, Minnesota, transcended this world on September 29th, 2025. She is survived by her mother, Kristina Smithson, her sisters Alexis Martinez and Aaliyah Martinez, and her beloved pets Linguine, Sky, and Storm. In addition, she is survived by countless friends whom she truly considered family. She is preceded in death by her beloved dogs Patch, Brandy, and Diamond.

Kiana had a brilliant mind and a compassionate soul. Her love for adventure was matched only by her generosity. Starting in high school, she volunteered tirelessly with YouthCARE, pouring her heart into mentoring and uplifting young people. She spent her summers as a camp counselor, loving the children there as if they were her own while always reminding them that they were loved, valued, and capable of anything. Later, she attended the University of Minnesota, earning her Bachelor of Science and beginning her career as an environmental scientist. She went on to work with some of the nation's top companies and was passionate about preserving the planet for generations to come.

Kiana spent her life dedicated to making the world a better place for those around her. She fiercely believed in the power of womanhood and encouraged the women in her life to never settle for anything less than they deserve. She firmly believed that nature was healing to the body and the soul. She constantly looked for the beauty in life, finding it in places such as the sunrise over the Stone Arch bridge, walks through the park, camping along the North Shore, or in the many waterfalls of New Zealand. Despite all her outdoor adventures, she never quite made peace with the mosquitoes or the snow. When escaping into nature was not an option, she spent hours exploring the wonderful worlds inside paranormal and fantasy books. As a woman of many talents, she would often craft her own intricate stories, beautiful drawings, and colorful paintings.

Kiana was a radiant light in the community; a source of joy, love, and boundless care for everyone she crossed paths with. She poured herself into the lives of others with a heart so full it could move mountains. Everyone who met her has a story of how Kiana changed their life. She had a gift for seeing the potential in others well before they saw it themselves, and always encouraged others to chase their dreams fearlessly. Known for her strong spirit, infectious laugh, and a smile that would light up any room, Kiana will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and colleagues. The best parts of her will live on within the hearts of those whose lives she touched. Her legacy will strengthen the communities she helped build for years to come.

A Celebration of Life is tentatively planned for March 2026. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to help her family plan a celebration of life that honors Kiana with the dignity, love, and support she deserves.
