George S. Olson, age 83, of St. Paul, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 3, 2025.
George was one-of-a-kind. He grew up in a big family with 12 siblings in St. Paul. To his siblings he was the quintessential big brother. He was particularly fond of attending the State Fair and taking his siblings to baseball games. He loved following the Twins and Vikings. George looked after his parents, as well. Then, after his mother died, he lived with his close sister Deborah for 23 years. She continued the State Fair tradition that he loved.
George graduated from Mechanic Arts High School and worked at the Centennial Building and Ramsey Hospital in St. Paul. In his free time, he was a bowling champion and Golden Glove Boxer. He tasted fame performing in Bowling for Dollars on Channel 5, and he enjoyed boxing in downtown St. Paul immensely.
He was also passionate about his sobriety. A long-time AA member, he made connections and supported others in their sobriety journeys. Above all, George was a storyteller, and his stories drew many people to him. He will be remembered for his friendliness, dedication to his family and community, and his ability to make connections everywhere.
Preceded in death by parents, George and Etta; and sister, Claire Anne.
Survived by siblings, Carol, Richard, Patricia, Peter (Kathy), Judith, Susan (Tom), James (Barbara), Deborah, William (Debbie), Daniel (Joan), Ted (Gloria), many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
