Elsie Miriam Lopez

July 3, 1974 — January 26, 2026

Elsie Olavarria, lovingly known by many as Neca, 51, passed away on January 26, 2026, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Elsie carried her hometown strength and warmth wherever life took her-and she left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

For 25 years, Elsie shared a devoted partnership with Rafael Gonzalez, building a life grounded in loyalty, laughter, and deep family love. Above all, Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt. She poured her heart into her family and lived with a rare kind of generosity-believing that no one in need should ever feel alone. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, and her home was often a refuge: full of love, open doors, and the comfort of being cared for.

Elsie was the proud mother of four children-Angeliz, Matthew, Jase, and Destiny-who will carry forward her compassion, her strength, and her enduring spirit of giving. She was a cherished grandmother to CJ, Madyson, Mason, Arianna, Aaliyah, and Kaylani, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Known as the life of the party, Elsie brought people together with her energy, humor, food and her bright personality. Her cooking was one of the things people loved most about her-she always cooked for family, and it was one of the ways she showed love.

As the oldest of her siblings, she was often the wisest-offering guidance, perspective, and steady love. Elsie is survived by her loving mother, Elsie Olavarria, and her siblings Peter, Luz, Veronica, and Krystal. She was predeceased by her father, Peter Olavarria, Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Simple Traditions by Bradshaw, 488 Humboldt Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55107. Doors will open at 2:30 PM. Additional memorial services in Florida and a celebration of life in Connecticut will be announced at a later date.

Elsie Olavarria will be remembered for her fierce love, her joyful spirit, and the way she made people feel seen and supported. The home she created-full of love, laughter, and open doors-will continue through her children, and through every future generation they raise in that same spirit.
