Douglas Shaw

Douglas Shaw, 83, of Lilydale, MN, passed away on October 16, 2025, after years of living with Alzheimer’s.

Doug grew up in South Minneapolis and graduated from Breck School in 1960. He went on to earn a degree in sociology from Colorado College and later pursued graduate studies at both the University of Minnesota and University of California, Santa Barbara.

After finishing school, Doug had a long and rewarding career in healthcare administration. Highlights of his work life include leadership roles at Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Minnesota Medical Association, the National Marrow Donor Program and Apple Valley Medical Center.

Along that path, Doug met his wife, Lois, marrying her in 1988. They were active members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Saint Paul. Lois died in 2020, and now they are happily reunited in heaven where they can once again enjoy each other’s company while watching Gopher football, the latest stop on the PGA Tour or riding in the sporty cars Doug liked so much.

In retirement, Doug delighted in the sun of Bonita Springs, FL, for several years before returning to Minnesota full-time. While back in the Twin Cities, he was an active grandparent who was always up for a trip to DQ with the kids. A highlight of these years was his lunches out. He rejoiced in these lunches, whether alone, with family or with one of his many friends from Breck, Colorado College, Gloria Dei or the healthcare industry. Doug was a regular at a host of area restaurants, but his absolute favorites were Burger Moe’s and Shamrocks in St. Paul. Certainly, bacon cheeseburgers and shrimp baskets must be on the menu in heaven!

Douglas Arthur Shaw was born on March 23, 1942, in Detroit Lakes, MN, and died on October 16, 2025, in Edina, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his father, Howard and his mother, Mary Ann. He is survived by his son, Mike, daughter-in-law, Becky, grandchildren, Claire and Wes, brother, Bruce, sister-in-law, Sandy, brother-in- law, David and David’s husband, John.

A memorial service for Doug will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Saint Paul, MN, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Doug’s family would like to offer a special thanks to his caregivers at Lilydale Senior Living, United Hospital, Allina Hospice, and NC Little Hospice.
