Darrell Butterwick

A kind, compassionate man. Darrell Butterwick, of Woodbury, MN, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026.

Born January 2, 1930, to David and Violet Butterwick, Darrell was the eldest of their children, along with loving sister, Coralie. Darrell began a lifetime career with Northern States Power Company (Excel Energy) at the age of 20. A service obligation with the Pipestone National Guard took him to Korea during the Korean Conflict in 1950. Upon his return, he resumed his career with N.S.P. which provided opportunities for management in St. Paul, MN, Grand Forks, ND, and Sioux Falls, SD. When he retired from N.S.P., Darrell served as Commissioner of Economic Development under Governor George Mickelson.

His life was benefitted by a supportive, loving wife, Beverly, his high school sweetheart and best friend of 51 years. The love they shared for each other was evidenced with every step and glorious move on the dance floor. Darrell's enjoyment of music was demonstrated upon his move to Stonecrest in Woodbury, where he was an active participant in the choir for their semi-annual concerts. Learning to hunt from his father, his love of hunting only intensified as he got older and made hunting memories with friends in Minnesota, North and South Dakota. Winters in Marco Island, FL opened a world of wonderful friendships built with others from across the country.

Despite a successful career, Darrell was proudest of his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly. He is survived by his children; Valerie Miller (Robert), Deborah Hubbell (Mark), and David Butterwick (Mary), his grandchildren; Kathryn Hubbell, Nathan Hubbell, Amy Jordan (Robert), Eric Butterwick, Lauren Butterwick, and Anna Miller (deceased), and his great-grandchildren; Kaylie Miller, Lexi Hoppe, Quincey Hoppe, Beverly Jordan, and Augustine Jordan. He was also blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews who enjoyed spending quality time with him-whether on the field, on the course, or around the well- decorated dinner table.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Stonecrest family for their support the past six years, but most importantly, the past couple months - your professionalism and compassion has been phenomenal.

Funeral service held at 1PM, on Thursday, August 27, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 700 Wesley Ln., Mendota Heights. Visitation from 11AM-1PM. Interment at New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone.
