While he was born January 4, 1969 in Rochester, NY and raised in Montana after a short stint in Mankato, Chris Wallen cannot be considered anything but a native Minnesotan. After moving back to MN for college in Morris, he laid roots in the Twin Cities. He began a family with Jennifer Wallen, having three children - Benjamin, Avery, and Arion Wallen. He was a jack of all trades, having various careers throughout the years, but was most proud of his title as father. His children were deeply loved by him their entire lives and will continue to pass that on. He connected to everyone through his humor and storytelling, which endeared him to many.
Chris was an avid basketball fan, die-hard for the Celtics as a kid. Later on, he focused on the Lynx and attended many games with his family. His most enjoyable pastime, however, was photography. His love of Minneapolis and St. Paul is evident in his photos. He loved to test out his camera on his family, keeping them on their toes with his candid photos.
Chris had struggled with depression for a handful of years, masking much of this pain from his loved ones. This led him to end his life, a decision that left his family reeling. His family urges their community to open discussions about mental health and be informed regarding resources available to you and your loved ones.
Chris will be remembered by many and survived by his two sons, Benjamin and Arion, and his daughter Avery as well as his ex-wife and friend Jen Wallen. His father Doug Wallen, stepmother Liz Wallen, brothers Doug and Jeff, and sister Sara will also keep his memory alive.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 12 at 11:30am at Mount Zion Temple. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
May Chris's memory be a blessing.
