"Christopher Okonkwo, age 82, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025.

Chris was originally from Nigeria and spent much of his professional life in Minnesota. He worked as a physicist for the Pillsbury Company and later drove a cab in retirement to stay active and supplement his income.

"I first met Chris in the early 1980s after I moved to the DMV area. Over the years, he became not only a part of our family but also a dedicated companion to my mother, Althea Richards. Chris lovingly cared for her for over fifteen years. Even after she moved into a nursing facility, he chose to relocate to the assisted living nearby so he could remain close. He faithfully visited her daily-always starting his morning at her bedside and ending his evenings by her side.

Chris and my mom shared a strong bond and a mutual love for bingo and other recreational activities. His devotion, kindness, and quiet strength have left a lasting impression on all of us."

Funeral service for Chris to be held at 1PM on Monday, January 12, 2025, at Simple Traditions by Bradshaw (488 Humboldt Ave., St. Paul). Visitation one hour prior.
