Charles de Alwis

Charles de Alwis, age 99 of Hopkins, passed away on November 20, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Therese de Alwis; sister in law, Hestia Abeyesekera. He will be deeply missed by those who survive him: children, Cheryl, Christopher, David (Jen) de Alwis; grandchildren, Logan and Mason de Alwis, Natalie Cardelli; sister, Naomi Palipane; niece and nephews, Romayne Abeyesekera, Shane and Erroll Palipane.

Charles was a groundbreaker in many ways. As a construction engineer in Sri Lanka, he was proud to have been the first Sri Lankan to build a 5-star hotel in his homeland. He was responsible for the successful construction of many significant infrastructure and resort hotel projects in Sri Lanka. When civil war necessitated his move to the United States, he never rested for long, finding work in many and varied fields.

Funeral service will be 11:00am Tuesday, November 26, 2024, with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Grandview Park Cemetery in Hopkins.
