Belle Dorothy Flynn Obituary 1938-2026

The one and only, Belle Dorothy Flynn, 88, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026 surrounded by her loving family of friends and caregivers at Carondelet Village on the beautiful campus of St. Catherine's University.

She and her twin sister, Shirley, were born on June 1, 1938 in Fairmont, Minnesota to John and Katherine (Gantert) Flynn, who together, created a remarkable family of five daughters (Katie, Belle, Shirley, Patti and Jenny).

Belle was a former Sister of Mercy in Iowa and became a grade school teacher, who positively impacted the lives of countless individuals over her long career, before retiring to enjoy many pursuits, including travel to visit family and friends. She so enjoyed her dogs and had a passion for the great outdoors. Belle was a Consociate with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet for forty years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine Flynn, her brother-in-law, William "Will" Cuntz, III, her nephews William "Chip" Cuntz, IV and John Cuntz, Sr., her brother-in-law and sister, Thomas "Tom" and Patricia Mooney, her dear friend, Sister Peggy O'Connell and her brother-in-law, Scott Hutchins.

She is survived by her older sister Katherine Cuntz, her twin sister Shirley Phleger (Gary) and her youngest sister Jennifer Hutchins, along with her many wonderful nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, located all around the United States.

Belle's family at large would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Anne Catherine Sert, Cathy Wagner and all of the many special people who provided their love and care to Belle over these last few years.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 25th at 11:00a.m. at the Sisters' Chapel, 1880 Randolph Avenue in St. Paul, followed by a luncheon and then internment at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.
