Barbara McKenzie

September 27, 1957 — September 17, 2025

Born in Bloomington, MN to Charles and Mary McKenzie, the 3rd child out of 5 (4 girls 1 boy).

After moving to Red Wing, MN as a teenager, Barb met the man who would become her first husband, Edward (Ole) Bath in a way that Old Hollywood would describe as a "meet cute". They were for married for 22 years and during that time were blessed with 3 beautiful children. When they knew their time together was at an end they decided to go their separate ways, but promised to always remain friends. Which they did.

A few years later, she met a man at a bar who offered her a pink cigarette and some good conversation and thus began a whirlwind romance with the love of her life, Shawn Sansburn. Together for 27 years (until her death) they spent their time camping, going to casinos all over the country, truck driving, going to the dog and horse tracks and most of all spent as much time as possible with her 7 grandchildren.

Since April 2023 Barb quietly and bravely battled Pancreatic Cancer. She was a fighter and remained stubborn until the end, only going when she was ready.

Her final days were spent peacefully surrounded by her family, who made sure to fill the room with love, laughter, a few tears, and the hope that she would soon find the strength to let go and be at peace.

Her talkative, happy personality left its mark wherever she went. She could make a complete stranger turn into a lifelong friend from a single conversation. She had the ability to be able to make people feel seen and noticed when she was in the room. When stressed she'd watch one of her favorite shows or bake, and during football season, Sundays were reserved for both. Her favorite thing, and the family's favorite thing for her to bake were her famous Oatmeal Raisin cookies and Rosettes.

Barb is proceeded in death by both of her parents (Chuck and Mary) and her son-in-law, Tiny.

Those she leaves behind include her partner (Shawn), her best friend (Ole), her 3 children, Jason (Melanie), Kelly (Devon) and Jamie (Alex). As well as all of her siblings and her "Pride and Joy", her 7 grandchildren: Anthony(26), Jonathon(25), Victoria(20), Aidan(19), Kameron(13), Aria(10) and Rhaenyra (2).

In lieu of a celebration of life or funeral, we ask that you remember Barb by sharing a memory you have with her or on the next beautiful day, do what she did every morning: wake up just as the sun peaks over the horizon, grab a cup of coffee, step outside and as the sun rises and the cool morning breeze touches your face; remember to be grateful for all of the little things in life and to smile as much as you can.

We thank you all for the kind words and support as we try to navigate this extremely difficult time.
