In Loving Memory of Antoinette Roberts
Antoinette Roberts, age 56, departed this life leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and unforgettable memories. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in the blessing of having known and loved such a remarkable woman.
Antoinette was born on July 23, 1969, in Gary, Indiana, to Dorothy Taylor and Joseph Roberts. She attended the Gary Public School system and later attended Roosevelt High School before relocating to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In her early adult years, Antoinette moved to Kentucky, where she married Antonio Ward. The couple later relocated to Berlin, Germany, and from their union one daughter was born, Anquinetta Ward.
After returning to Minnesota to be near her family, Antoinette met Michael Sims, and together they welcomed three children: Mykayla Sims, TaKyra Sims, and Damarion Sims. Her children were among her greatest joys, and she poured her heart into loving them.
Later in life, Antoinette met the love of her life, Michael Smith of St. Paul, Minnesota. Together they shared many wonderful years filled with family gatherings, traveling, laughter, and making cherished memories with loved ones. Their bond was built on friendship, love, and a deep appreciation for one another.
Antoinette dedicated much of her professional life to caring for others. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and later as a driver for Metro Mobility, where she continued to serve her community with compassion and kindness. Helping others came naturally to her. Whenever someone was in need, Antoinette was often among the first to show up with an open heart, a listening ear, and a helping hand
In In 2023, Antoinette received one of life's greatest gifts when she became a grandmother to her beloved grandson, Da'Kari Anthony Harris The bond they shared brought her tremendous joy, and the memories they created together will be treasured forever. Antoinette also shared a special relationship with her nephew, D'khi Deshawn Lowry, whom she helped raise alongside his parents. Though he was her nephew by relation, he held a place in her heart much like a grandson. Their bond was built on love, guidance, laughter, and countless cherished moments that will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
To her nieces and nephews, she was affectionately known as the "Cool Aunt." Yet she was so much more than that. She was a confidant, a mentor, a protector, and a lifeline to many. One of her most beloved traditions was hosting an annual New Year's Eve Party just for the children. Antoinette never measured life by material things or large crowds. Instead, she found joy in creating meaningful moments and lasting memories for those she loved.
Antoinette was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dorothy Taylor and Joseph Roberts, and two brothers, Vance Nicklson and Kevin Glover.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Anquinetta Ward and Amos Magee Jr, Mykayla Sims, TaKrya Sims, and Damarion Sims; her beloved grandson, Dkari; the love of her life, Michael Smith; her sisters, Yolonda Taylor of Bloomington, Minnesota; Pamdora Davis (Randol) of Roseville, Minnesota; Anita Roberts of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; Michelle Washington (Johnie) of Gary, Indiana and LaVina Bell (Rodney) of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; her brothers, Raymond Taylor (Daphne) of Merrillville, Indiana, and Donte Taylor (Sandy) of New Hope, Minnesota, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Rich in spirit and possessing a heart of pure gold, Antoinette had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. We would often say Antoinette never met a stranger and everyone was family. She was truly the life of every party she attended. Her infectious smile could light up a room, her laughter could lift the heaviest of hearts, and her presence brought comfort, safety, and joy to everyone around her.
Antoinette taught many of us how to live boldly and authentically-to be unapologetically ourselves. She showed us that love is best expressed through time spent together, memories created, and kindness freely given. Her life was a testament to the power of family, generosity, resilience, and joy.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. We find comfort in knowing that the love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will continue to bless generations to come.
"The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance." - Psalm 112:6
